GOALS
Currently there are over 560 federally-recognized tribes in the US, with many more recognized by individual states, yet there are only 9 tribally-owned financial institutions in the U.S. NANBA desires to build partnerships with these Indian, Aboriginal and Native groups and organizations to build a strong network of Indian-owned financial institutions throughout Indian Country. NANBA also desires to build relationships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, existing financial institutions and other firms that share our vision of enhancing Indian economic self-determination through a strong financial network. Given the 560 plus federally- recognized tribes in the U.S. alone, NANBA believes the desire to have 50 tribally-owned financial institutions in the U.S. and Canada in the next ten years is an attainable goal.

PROFILE
|
Mr. Colbert, Chickasaw-Creek, is the founder of NANBA and serves as the association’s president. He is also the founder of Bank2, a bank that is 100% owned by the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma. Mr. Colbert has a long and distinguished career in banking and Native American economic development. He has served as president and CEO of an independent community bank, vice president of the largest bank in Oklahoma and also has experience as a bank CFO. Mr. Colbert has been on the board of directors of two banks and has served as a consultant/advisor to the board of a third bank. He has also served as head of economic development for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. and as tribal administrator of a 25,000 member tribe.
Mr. Colbert has special expertise in forming tribally-owned commercial banks as well as identifying unique marketing opportunities available to tribal/minority-owned banks. His expertise also covers interest and fee income generation, bank investments, interest rate risk management, Community Development Financial Institutions and SuperBoard development. Mr. Colbert has been a speaker at numerous banking conferences including those sponsored by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Oklahoma Bankers Association, the American Bankers Association and numerous Indian economic development conferences.
